In honor of Dia de los Muertos, I created this new illustration to celebrate and remember all the mentors, friends and loved ones that have passed on.
I’ve been wanting to do a Day of the Dead with a monarch butterfly theme every since I saw some pictures from a parade in Mexico City of dancers wearing beautiful butterfly costumes. So for this year’s illustration I went with the colors of the monarch butterfly. I wasn’t sure about the pose or any outfit specifics when I started the illustration. I’m always amazed how the art work dictates the feel and look as you move from the beginning stage to the finished piece.
